Terms of Reference

- Authority
The Communications Committee is established as an Integrated Standing Committee in accordance with the TPA Unit's Constitution Article 7, Sections 7.8 and 7.8.1, and in accordance with the provisions of By-law 10.
- Membership
The members of the Committee are:
- The TPA Unit's Communications Chair
- A Representative from each Branch
- The members of the Editorial Board
- The Unit President (ex officio)
- The Editor of The Appeel (if different from Chair)
- Past Editor, working as a Consultant in Layout (if required)
- One Representative of the PSSP Unit
- The Editorial Board of the District Newspaper
- The Editorial Board for The Appeel is an ad hoc committee; all committee members are welcome to participate.
- The Editorial Board is responsible for reviewing submissions and consulting with the editor regarding the content of the District newspaper.
- Role of the Committee
- To advise the Communications Chair and the Editorial Board.
- To evaluate OSSTF District 19 communications media and to suggest improvements.
- To distribute OSSTF communications media in the Branch.
The District newspaper (The Appeel) is to be distributed directly to every member of the Branch.
- To forward Branch Updates submitted by staff and to develop news stories for The Appeel.
- To see that all contributions to The Appeel are sent to the District Office in keeping with the copy, photo and advertising deadlines, as outlined in the annual schedule.
- To assist in the production of the District newspaper.
- To assist the Communications Chair in other communication tasks.
- Promote and advance the cause of OSSTF and District 19 within the Branch.
- Take an active leadership role within the Branch, especially during times of negotiation, strike action, and political action.
- Sub-Committees
The Committee shall form ad hoc sub-committees as required to carry out its functions.
