Terms of Reference

- Role of the Committee
- to identify issues which are relevant to human rights;
- to assist in encouraging the understanding of these issues and dealing with them;
- to assist in formulating policy and implementing guidelines in relation to religious, cultural, educational and employment equity, anti-racist and anti-sexist education, sexual harassment, violence against others, classism and sexual orientation;
- to evaluate and research areas of concern and be politically proactive;
- to promote awareness of the Human Rights Committee and to assist members to recognize and appreciate the contribution of people of different racial groups, creeds, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientation and emotional or physical abilities
- Duties of Committee Members
- to attend all scheduled meetings of the HRC;
- to bring issues affecting human rights in the Branch to the attention of the committee of the whole;
- to understand the role of the HRC; and actively seek professional development opportunities in order to expand the base of the committee;
- to promote awareness of the HRC and its role;
- to inform the Branch membership of all matters related to the HRC;
- to assist the Branch President in Federation duties;
- where possible, to participate in and support sub-committee work;
- promote and advance the cause of OSSTF and District 19 within the Branch;
- take an active leadership role within the Branch, especially during times of crisis
