Leaves
STPDL (Short Term Professional Development Leave)
- Provided by
the Peel Board to allow teachers to attend conferences, etc.
- An in-school
STPDL Committee oversees applications and decides
on a level of funding based on the school’s terms of reference.
- Questions
should be directed to your school STPDL representative.
- Teacher absences
are covered by an occasional teacher.
TFL
(Teacher Funded Leave)
- Allows teachers to save for semester or school leaves
through two different plans.
- An information meeting is held at CBO each fall
to discuss the plans, and application must be made by January 31.
- Information
is available from the Benefits & Retirement Counsellor.
Pregnancy/Parenting
Leave
- Available to employees with a minimum of 13 weeks service with the
Peel Board.
- Additional information is in a pamphlet entitled What

Teacher, available
from the Benefits & Retirement Counsellor.
Medical Leave
- Available to Peel teachers who run out of sick days.
- No salary is paid
and benefits must be self-paid.
- Teachers on medical leave should be seeking
the assistance of the Benefits & Retirement Counsellor to apply for LTD.
Personal
Leaves of Absence
- Categories without loss of pay or deductions from sick
leave credits include: deaths of relatives and friends, serious illness of
the former, compassionate leave, funerals, childbirth or adoption for fathers,
examinations, graduations, holy days, court appearances, and quarantine.
- See

- Personal
leave with loss of pay is granted for personal reasons by the Board through
the Superintendent of Human Resources, upon application, for extended periods
of time.
- No salary is paid and benefits must be self-paid.
- Application must
be made by February 15th of the year preceding the leave.
It is
necessary to apply for all leaves on a leave request form available on the
Board’s website
or in the school office.
- At
present, Board policy specifies a five-year lapse between leaves of absence
- Some exceptions apply.
- There is no loss of seniority while on leave.
