Retirement
Thinking about Retiring?
- attend a retirement workshop at least one year before, if not several years before retirement
- either contact the Pension Board at 416-226-2700 and ask them to provide you with pension estimates for the dates that you are considering, or use the secure on line access to do some calculations yourself, www.otpp.com to register
- call District Office at (905) 564-7255 to make your retirement appointment with the Benefits and Retirement Counsellor. Call in the Fall for a January 31st retirement, call in the Spring for a June 30th retirement.
- Notice – Peel Board needs thirty days notice, provided notice is given on or before Nov. 30th or May 31st (Article 18 of the Collective Agreement)
- Pension Board needs two to three months to process your application
At the retirement appointment you will receive a package containing all the forms that you will need to apply for your pension. The following will be discussed at this appointment:
- Sample retirement letter – who does it go to?
- Pension Application – what needs to be sent with the application?
- Retirement Allowance (Article 26)
- Benefits options
- Supply teaching after retirement
- Survivor Pension, 10-year guarantee
- CPP, etc.
